International Conference on "Islamic Values in Central Asia: Tolerance, Consolidation, Humanism" (historical, philosophical and cultural aspects)
26 - 27 June 2007, Tashkent

The conference was organized and managed by the Institute of History of the Academy of Science of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Tashkent Islamic University affiliated to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the French Institute of Central Asian Studies (IFEAC), International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS-UNESCO) and UNESCO Office in Tashkent. The conference was held in the meeting room of the Tashkent Islamic University.

Leading experts in Islamic studies as well as young researchers in this field were invited from 11 countries: Germany, Holland, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, France, Switzerland, Japan and Uzbekistan.

The conference worked in three sections:

1) Historical aspects of formation and development of Islamic values of Central Asia.

2) Philosophical, cultural and educational aspects of Islam in Central Asia.

3) Islam in contemporary Central Asia.

This conference to a certain measure has enabled experts to generalize the latest academic achievements in Islamic studies and to consider the role of “Islamic factor' in the context of global social, political and cultural transformations in the contemporary world, in particular, in the Central Asia region.

During the conference there were receptions organized for the participants and other guests at IFEAC and the French Embassy in Uzbekistan.
