The conference was organized on 9-10, October 2004 in Navoi region within the framework of the “Petroglyphs of Central Asia” programme of IICAS which is developed since 2001, in cooperation with Navoi Mining-Metallurgical Complex (NMMC) and the Group for the Study of Rock Arts “Sarmish” of the Institute of Archeology Academy of Science of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
About 100 participants took part in the Sarmishsay conference: 40 of them were: experts in petroglyphs, archaeologists, historians, conservatives, biologists, geologists, experts on tourism development representing 9 countries of the world: Azerbaijan (1), Italy (1), Kazakhstan (4), Kyrgyzstan (2), Norway (3), Pakistan (1), Russia (6), Tajikistan (1), Japan (8), Uzbekistan (12).
During two full days of conference work 21 researches on Rock Art monuments of Altai, Siberia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan and Norway were presented, a number of presentations were about restoration and conservation works, carried out on series of monuments, about the experience of different countries of Europe and Central Asia generally on conservation of monuments of valuable historical and cultural heritage and Rock Art in particular, as well as about the development and perspectives of the long-term Project of UNESCO "Petroglyphs of Central Asia". |
