The present book examines the formation and development of letter-phonetic (alphabetic) written systems and the written culture of ancient Central Asia. It considers the problems of graphic development of the Sogdian, Khorezmian, ancient Turkic, Uygur-Mongolian and other scripts, and addresses questions of alphabet formation along the course of the Great Silk Road.
